How To Plan An Amazing New Year – #AskYourCoach

Are you ready for a New Year? Do you know how to plan it? Have you thought how your 2016 will look like and what you want to accomplish? We all want the next year to be the best one ever, but not everyone knows what would that mean exactly. In order to get what you want, you first need to know what you want. 

In the last few months, I learned that the HOW is not so important as the WHAT. When you want and need certain things to happen, but you are too focused on HOW you will get them, you might not get them at all. Letting things happen in the best possible way for you and the rest of the world, is the easiest and fastest way to achieve everything you have ever wanted.

In this #AskYourCoach video, I want to share with you a few exercises I like to do, each December (I have been doing them in the last few years) to have a clearer idea of what I want to accomplish when to accomplish them and how to plan for them to happen. Excited? Let’s do this!

How To Plan An Amazing New Year

For these exercises you want to take some time off, put on some relaxing music, light up a candle or more, just don’t burn the house, take some white paper and a blue inked pen. Sit in a comfortable position, in a place that will spark your creativity and imagination. I love seating on the floor, on a fluffy pillow. Now it’s time to let the magic happen.

  • Be. Do. Have.

The first thing you want to do is take 3 different sheets of paper.

All the things that I want to BE

I AM:

– a writer

– a successful blogger

– a happy wife

All the things that I want to DO

I DO:

– write a book

– move to USA

– publish a video each week

All the things that I want to HAVE

I HAVE:

– a diamond ring

– the perfect wedding

– 1,000,000 pageviews

Now, imagine you have a magic wand at your disposal and that you have all the money and the time in the world.

What will you write on each piece of paper?

Do not hold yourself, be creative, be crazy, write how many houses you want to own, or how much money to donate, or how many languages you want to learn. It’s just a fun game in which to let your creativity flow and create magic on paper.

Don’t time it, write until you have no more ideas of what you want to be, do or have in this lifetime.

BE DO HAVE exercise- how to plan an amazing new year

Good, how was this exercise? How many things have you written down? I have a few pages, I know, I love the magic wand. 

  • How is THIS going to help you in the new year?

Good that you asked! You see, you will now go back through your lists and with a colorful marker if you have, you will highlight all the thigs that you THINK that are possible for you to be, do or have in the new year!

Your lists were for your whole life, now you will start focusing on only those for the upcoming year, that you think are doable. 

BE DO HAVE smaller list - how to plan an amazing new year

  • Pick ONE goal for each month

Now, that you have a smaller list for each category, try to add one or maximum 2 goals for each month of your next year. For example, in 2016, I will get married, be a published author, have my student loan paid, but I will not be doing them all at the same time.

I will publish my book in May, have my loan paid by July and get married in October. Of course, I have other goals on my mind, but this is just an example.

If you put 3 or more in one month, you won’t have the energy to accomplish all of them, month after month. Is better to add one or 2 big goals each month.

Now, that you have added one or 2 big goals for each month, you will do a final step of the exercise, meaning: you will divide that goal/goals in small action steps. Some steps you will have to start a few months before accomplishing the goal and others will only require your attention that month.

In my case, each month I have an action step towards my wedding: choosing the dress, the menu, the shoes, the invitations, etc. To be able to publish a book in May, in the first 3 months of the year my actions steps are to write one day a week, after that I will work on marketing, cover and book deals.

As you can see, some goals may take the whole year to accomplish, in smal steps, other goals might take a few months only or just a few weeks. 

If you divide each goal/dream in small and smart action steps, and you create a time frame for them, it will get easier to focus in your 2016 and be really proud of your accomplishments. Do you know now how to plan your best year ever?
